The day began warm, as usual, and immediately with a lovely little Lesser Shortwing in the nets! This individual was quickly identified as an adult due to the fresh and nice feathers, all of which were of adult type! This contrasts to the juveniles, which would show a moult limit in the GCs.
Next up we had not one but two Orange-headed Thrushes! Both of these individuals were juveniles, showing moult contrasts in the GCs. The 2nd individual here appeared to be not as far along in its moult, as the post-juvenile GCs were not yet fully grown. Note that both tails of these individuals are also fully juvenile.
Unfortunately, today our photolab, that we have been using to take these standardised photos of birds, decided to break on us, so we were unable to take many photos. However, we ended up having a nice day with a few other noteworthy species, such as another Yellow-rumped Flycatcher and Pale-legged Leaf Warbler.
Just as the afternoon began to draw to a close, we were lucky enough to catch another Arctic Warbler! This beautiful individual was a nice example of a well kept 1st calendar year, with uniformly fresh juvenile feathers.
